Bangalore, now referred to as Bengaluru is the capital city of Karnataka. Bangalore has developed over time and become one of the top destinations in India. The story of how Bangalore got its name is quite interesting. It is said that once the king ViraBallal was wandering around and got lost. An old lady offered him some boiled beans as he was famished. The noble king thus bequeathed this land after this humble act and called it Benda KaaluUru which means Land of the Boiled Beans. Bangalore was earlier called garden city and pensioner’s paradise. Now these epithets do not serve the purpose as there are a large number of working people in Bangalore and the greenery is dwindling in this city. Bangalore has a pretty pleasant climate all year round unlike other parts of south India.
Bangalore is not really a tourist destination but there are many things to see here. It is ideal for a short visit. There are full day and half day city bus tours known as Bus Rounds organised by The Karnataka State Tourist Centre. Some of the attractions in Bangalore include the VidhanSoudha, ISKON Hare Krishna Temple, Bangalore Palace, Tipu Sultan’s Palace, MaruthiMandir, Shiva temple and many more.
The VidhanSoudha, huge granite structure is the legislative house of the Karnataka State. It is built in the Neo- Dravidian style of architecture. Bangalore place was the house of the Maharajas of Mysore. it is a dilapidated structure now with paint peeling off the walls. Tipu sultans place is a two storeyed structure comprising of majestic arches and balconies. This was the summer home for Tipu sultan. The ISKON Hare Krishna Temple is an amazing blend of modern technology and spiritual harmony. Located on a hill in Rajaji nagar with the scenic beauty adds to the beauty of the place. MaruthiMandir is located opposite ISKON and contains huge idols of hanuman. A massive monolith of Lord Shiva dons the Shiva Temple off the Airport Road. It is placed in an artificial pool and is crowded during the MahaShivratri festival.
