Kozhikode is formerly known as Calicut. This magnificent city is situated in Kerala state of India.
This city is situated on the Malabar Coast and was famous for its spice especially black pepper. Many Arab traders used to come here during the ancient times to buy spices. Vasco da Gama was the first European to set his foot on India. He landed here in search of spices and he landed in this very city. Later on many European powers came to trade for the spice and ultimately they became super power in the country. Many Chinese travellers came here and wrote about this place where they described the state of affairs and other matters.

The Calicut has its own international airport that handles a number of flights from different parts of the world. Many major airlines have their regular flights to this city. The city of Calicut is well connected by Indian Railways network and there are a number of regular trains to this city from neighbouring places and states. Dolphin's Point: This is a popular place that is located about 15 minutes from the main city centre. You can see dolphins playing in the sea.
Kirtads: This is the museum that has a number of artefacts and objects that provides us a glimpse into the past. The main theme of this museum is the tribal people. You can find various tools and weapons that are used by them. There is a large library that is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.
Kozhikode Beach is another attraction of this place where you must visit the old lighthouse that was made about 500 years ago.
