Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport was earlier known as Sahar International airport. It is located in Mumbai, India. It is renamed after Chhatrapati Shivaji Bhosle who was a 17th century Maratha Emperor. It has been made after merging two airports, Sahar (international) Airport and Santa Cruz (domestic) Airport. That's why the domestic terminals 1A and 1B are called Santa Cruz. Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), a consortium of GVK industries limited and Airport Company South Africa (ACSA) is also responsible for the modernization of this airport.
There are three terminals in this airport, terminal 1, terminal 2 and a terminal for Cargo. Terminal 1 is mainly used for domestic arrivals and departures. It has two sub terminals which are 1A, 1B and 1C. Security is being checked in 1A and 1B. Terminal 2 is used for international flights and it is being remade. And cargo terminal is used for cargos. Ambassador's Sky Chef, Chef Air, Oberoi Flight services, Sky Gourmet and TAJ-SATS are there to give their services to passengers for delicious food. Its fuel providers are Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum and Indian oil.
For Jet Airways India and Go Air it is primary hub and it is the secondary hub for Air India, Indigo, JetLite, Kingfisher Airlines and Spice Jet. It is also very much famous for having nice cafeterias, spas, saloons and aerobridge. Here 3600 cars can be parked but it the plan is on to expand this area so that 12000 cars can be parked. Currently it has 182 check-in counters but it can be expanded to 339 counters according to the new plans. It is considered as South Asia's second busiest airport. It can handle 29.1 million passengers and it also can handle 670,235 tones cargos.
Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport handle more than half air traffic of South Asia. It has been regarded as fourth best airport in the world, and best airport of India. It has also received the award for best public-private relationship and for the first Airport in India to implement Self Service Kiosks and CUTE (common use terminal equipment) Check in system.
