In Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, approximately two hundred fifty aircrafts land and take off every day. It serves the two main cities of Gujarat and those are Ahmadabad and Gandhinagar. It is situated eight kilometers away from the Ahmadabad railway station. It is named after the first and former deputy prime minister of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. This airport covers the area of 1.124 acres with the runway of 11,811 ft. This is the hub for many Indian airlines such as Air India, Spice Jet, Kingfisher, Jet Airways, and Indigo.
Transportation facilities for the airport and from the airport are available easily. The Ahmadabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) also runs bus services for the convenient of passengers. Plans for a direct metro rail linking are in progress. This airport has all the basic facility of an average domestic airport. Three restaurants have been made here, and their names are Cama Hotels, Flying Chef and Conwood. The fuel provider companies are Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum and Indian Oils. Its ground handlers are Air Works India, Cambata Aviation, GlobeGround India and National Aviation Company of India limited.
It has four terminals domestic, international, additional and cargo terminal. Terminal 1 is used for the arrivals and departures of domestic flights and it has 30 check-in counters. It has approximately 45000sq meter area. The Airport building has two floors. The area where flights come and go is made in a modern and simple way. The check-in counters and baggage reclaim are situated on level one of ground floor. The terminal is structured in a way that maintenance can be managed easily. Terminal 2 is considered as new building, which is made from the inspiration of Singapore Changi Airport. This project has been made according to the norms of IATA, which facilitates the intelligent building management system.
Terminal 3 is made for secondary traffic of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Some 200 cars can be parked in its parking area and it can handle 500 passengers. Cargo Terminal is made to manage all the cargo operations in a very efficient way. Its standard matches to international standard of aviation.
